Summary
The Grupa Ilan, a Great Tree of type KPaZP7, is the earliest known Great Tree to reach us that begins with the first four frames of Knorr’s original Saruqian ilan (Kabbala denudata I, Apparatus IV, figs. 8–11). K is followed by PaZP7, the spliced integration of Poppers and Ẓemaḥ. This ilan also stands out by virtue of having a rare colophon at the very bottom of the rotulus: “I made this neither out of genius nor pride, for it is not for the desire of the eyes / but only for the glory of the Lord, who dwells in the heavens, to learn within it His deep secrets / and the covenant of isaac he will fulfill with me” Under the formal colophon is a cursive signature that is difficult to decipher. It appears to read: “Isaac son of the honorable R. Leib of Grupa (Dolná Krupá), here in Schlaining.” Isaac Grupa is an unknown figure. On this ilan, see J. H. Chajes, The Kabbalistic Tree, pp. 215–221
